South Africa has a coastline of approximately 4000 kilometres and an Exclusive Economic Zone of 1.5 million square kilometres under its jurisdiction. This large ocean space is rich in biodiversity, providing living and non-living resources that either are contributing or could potentially contribute to the country’s economy and to job creation. A key driver to unlock the full potential of the ocean as elucidated in Operation Phakisa is ocean observation capability, which is currently lacking.
Aequorea is positioned to play in this space, providing localised technology solutions developed by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
